Student Groups

SIAM - Brown Chapter

I am the President of Brown University's chapter of the Society of Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM). We are a community of students, postdocs and faculty interested in applied and interdisciplinary mathematics. We organize professional, academic and social events including latex tutorials, industry and internship panels and competitions. A principle part of this is the Brown Mathematical Contest for Modeling (BMCM) and SIAM Grad Seminar both of which I co-organise.

Brown Mathematical Contest for Modeling (BMCM) - Organizer

The Brown Mathematics Contest for Modelling (BMCM) is a student competition where small groups of undergraduates attempt to answer open-ended, real world questions by analysing data or constructing mathematical models. This is intended as a lead up competition to COMAP's MCM/ICM international competition. This is a joint effort with Christine Tseng

SIAM Graduate Seminar - Organizer

The SIAM Grad Seminar is seminar series aimed at showcasing graduate research in Brown Applied Math in an informal setting. Each week a grad student gives a talk about their research or just some interesting mathematics. Audience feedback is also moderated by the organizers to provide an opportunity to learn presentation skills and practice conference talks. This is a joint effort with Juniper Cocomello and Pratyush Potu

APMA Directed Reading Program - Organizer

I am a co-organizer of the Division of Applied Math Directed Reaching Program (DRP). The DRP is a reading program for undergraduates run by graduate students. We offer semester long reading projects for undergraduates on topics outside the normal course schedule. Mentees are given the opportunity to work with a graduate student or postdoc mentor in reading textbooks or papers on topics they are interested in and would not normally be exposed to at Brown. They also get the chance to network with their peers in the program and practice mathematics communication. We also offer support to graduate student mentors, giving them the opportunity to learn leadership, mentoring and teaching skills. I have mentored three students in the program and been a co-organizer from Spring 2022. This is a joint effort with Kevin Hu.

Organiser First Year Graduate Retreat Fall 2022

The Division of Applied Math has a tradition of taking the new incoming graduate cohort on a two day retreat. We provide students with the opportunity to make friends within their cohort and across the Division, learn about the Division and its research and overall start their Brown experience with a bang. I lead the retreat with the assistance of Erik Bergland, Juniper CocomelloTeressa Chambers and Kevin Hu.
